ToBeDesigned is a personal inspiration and mood board app. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your data. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

 

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Data You Provide

• Saved items: URLs, titles, descriptions, and thumbnails you save to your library.

• Boards: Names and organisation of boards you create.

• Tags: Labels you apply to saved items.

 

1.2 Automatically Generated Data

• A random anonymous device identifier is generated on first launch and stored locally on your device. This is used solely to identify your contributions to shared boards. It is not linked to your name, email, or any personal account.

 

1.3 Shared Board Data If you create or join a shared board, the following is stored in Google Firestore:

• The board name and a randomly generated share code.

• Items you add to the shared board (URL, title, description, thumbnail, tags, and your anonymous device identifier).

 

1.4 Data We Do Not Collect

• We do not collect your name, email address, contacts, photos, or browsing history.

• We do not collect location data.

• We do not collect any data unrelated to app functionality.

 

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your data only to provide the app's core functionality:

• Display your saved items and boards within the app.

• Sync shared board content in real time between members.

• Identify which items you added to a shared board so edit and remove permissions can be enforced.

 

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers or any third party for commercial purposes.

 

3. Local vs Cloud Data

The majority of your data is stored entirely on your device in a local SQLite database, including all items, boards, and tags that are not part of a shared board. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it or add an item to a shared board.

Shared board data is stored in Google Firestore (EU region). Only the content of items added to shared boards is uploaded. Local-only boards and their contents remain entirely on your device.

 

4. Data Storage and Security

• Local data is stored in an SQLite database on your device and is subject to your device's security model.

• Shared board data is stored in Google Firestore (EU region).

• Access to shared board data is controlled by Firestore Security Rules. Any device with the share code can read and write to the board.

• We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data from unauthorised access.

 

5. Export and Import

The app provides a built-in export feature that serialises your local database to a JSON file, which you can save to your device, cloud storage, or share as you choose. This file contains all your saved items, boards, and tags. You are responsible for the security of any exported files.

 

6. Third-Party Services

ToBeDesigned uses the following third-party services:

• Google Firebase (Firestore): Stores shared board data. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

• Expo / React Native: The framework used to build the app. No personal data is transmitted to Expo by default.

We do not currently use crash reporting, analytics, or advertising SDKs. If this changes, this policy will be updated and users notified via app release notes.

 

7. Children's Privacy

ToBeDesigned is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child is using the app and sharing data via shared boards, please contact us and we will assist with data removal.

 

8. Your Choices

You can, at any time:

• Delete any saved item or board from your local library.

• Remove yourself from a shared board, which removes it from your local device. Your previously added items remain visible to other members unless you delete them before leaving.

• Export your data at any time from the Stats screen.

• Uninstall the app, which removes all local data from your device. Shared board data in Firestore will persist until the board owner deletes the board for everyone.

 

If you are based in the UK or EU, you have additional rights under UK GDPR / GDPR, including the right to access, correct, or erase your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below.

 

9. Data Retention

Local data is retained until you delete it or uninstall the app. Shared board data in Firestore is retained until the board owner deletes the board for everyone, or until you request deletion by contacting us.

 

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated through the app or via release notes. The effective date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
